12 Steps to Joy (8)

The Word of Life (1)

In the beginning the Word already existed.

                        The Word was with God,

                        And the Word was God.

The Word existed in the beginning with God.

God created everything through the Word,

And nothing was created except through the Word.

The Word gave life to everything that was created,

And the life of the Word brought light to everyone.

The light shines in the darkness,

And the darkness can never extinguish it.”

                                                                        John 1:1-5.

The Word gave life to everything that was created,

And the life of the Word brought light to everyone.

We started to look at the breathtaking concept that the universal force of gravity is the substance of the universe itself. But God, in the form of the Word or the Christ, is the “power behind the power”, as they say. It appears as if gravity has another name: Word.Could it be that the true statement of the Word made flesh is revealed in the force of Gravity? What we are seeing is that nature in the form of the forces that science claims make all of nature is the same as what spirituality claims as the source of Life, but different language is used by each side. The sad part is, each side tends to point fingers at the other and scream ‘liar!!’, while both in truth are saying the same thing.

What science is doing is expanding the understanding of universal life beyond what we normally consider life. life is in all things, even the rock in the yard is full of action: electrons flying at breathtaking speeds around the nucleus, and molecules jostling one another (we call that ‘temperature’) in constant motion. St. Francis understood this well; and everything, from the very earth to the smallest form of life to humanity was sacred to St. Francis. Nothing was left out; and he was in a constant state of surprise at the wonders presented to him by God.

All of creation is one in the core of God, or the Word, or in what we call the Christ. (No, Christ was not Jesus’ last name) The Christ body is what we call the universe, the pulsing, breathtaking, and wonderous universe, and God understood that we have no way to love that frightening thing we now call the universe, but need something we can relate to, like a human face to look at and we can learn to love and trust. This came in the form of Jesus, the human and limited physical form of the Christ, and is needed so that we can emotionally feel tied to something we can ‘grasp’: if we can ever ‘grasp’ any human being. Thus came Jesus, who could speak in the purity of the knowledge of God, having matured on all levels by the age 30. As has been said, Jesus came to nudge us forward over the next hurdle that was stopping or slowing us up, and it has only taken 2000 years for that message to begin to penetrate to the level intended. We probably have several more thousand years of plodding before we evolve to our true capabilities.

But evolve we will.

Note the words in John 1 if you wonder about life in all of creation. The “Word gave life to everything that was created”.Interesting turn of phrase: ‘everything that was created’. That includes all of the universe. The rock in the yard, the earth itself, that shooting star in the sky, the moon, the sun — nothing is left out, if we can hold that in our thinking or not.

And that includes all the forces that hold the universe together in such marvelous ways.

Meditation

Oh Creative One, You who constantly creates all that is in a never ending cycle, You have been attracting me all of my life, from the joy of a very young child, to the unbelievable joy of love and being in the beauty of the universe. I place myself in Your care, knowing that I will always feel Your Breath of Joy wherever I exist. I give to you all my anxieties and fears, and let your light fill my life to such that it blinds me to all else; only seeing Your presence in all that exists in all planes of existence I can sense.

We are bound in the music of life where we dance and weave within that glorious melody, or what some call God. Now, God has said that we are the very image of God (Genesis 1:27), and as images of God, we have the inborn ability to have Joy and Happiness forever present in our life. The author, David L. Peters, is an octogenarian whose life has always been filled with joy, regardless of outward appearances. The wonders of the Kingdom of Heaven is everyone’s birthright, if you know how to let your Creator and the Universe enter your spirit. Jesus put it succinctly: “The Kingdom of God lies within” (Luke 17:21). The Kingdom of God, Paradise, Heaven: these lie within you, right now, waiting for you to only turn and see, and join in the dance. Paradise is right within us, but how do we unlock the door to this wonder of joy? This book lays a path open that the author has followed for almost 80 years, starting as a young boy in rural Ohio, and it operates as advertised. No matter how things look in life, how bad it seems, all one need do is look deeper within and find the joy that can fill life: life is good! The life of abundant joy and happiness is yours for the asking. Dip your toe in the living waters, and taste the Beauty of God that is awaiting.
