Living in Unconditional Love (255)

“Love flows from God to humans without effort:

As a bird glides through the air without moving its wings-

Thus, they go wherever they wish united in body and soul,

Yet separate in form.”

–Mechtild of Magdeburg

My wife Eileen died from esophageal cancer in February 2020 one year after being diagnosed, 60 years after we met on Long Island. Then my brother Tom became ill (not COVID), and I spent a total of six weeks being with him in Ohio, but he died in October 2020. My sister-in-law Sue Mahoney died from Covid-19 in January 2021. On top of it all stood the pandemic, locking everyone down almost two years. Covid has proved to be a persistent problem, and many of the long-term effects are quite serious, and it has proven much more serious than flu.

02/15/2026                             I am writing this on Valentine’s Day, and it will be in Atlanta when it goes on Facebook and my website. It has been a cold week but should warm up a bit this coming week. My furnace went out due to the cold, and they have not been able to fire it up all week. My ac heat unit keeps the worst of the cold out and the house remains in the low 60s, but I can survive. They must replace one of the fuel lines. That will be done after I leave for Peru. In the meantime, I keep extra sweaters on and am often wrapped in a blanket but otherwise I am doing fine.

The suitcases are stuffed, and I had to remove most items from their boxes to fit everything in two suitcases. Bags of oatmeal, snacks, and other things fill nooks and crannies but all fit. I am looking forward to seeing all and enjoying the summer weather there. The kids are growing so fast, and I will be there for two of the birthdays (Maria and Madison) plus leaving the evening of my birthday. I still find it amazing that I will be 92 in April.

The sixth anniversary of Eileen’s death is coming up soon, the day after Maria’s sixth birthday. I expect we will still be celebrating her birthday and that will keep my mind off her death. I have been extremely fortunate to have 60 wonderful years with her, and with our beautiful children.

The impact on healthcare costs is devastating. Karen was spending under $200 a month, and it jumped to well over a thousand. This will force thousands or even millions to drop health insurance, just so they can harass our fellow citizens and kill a few in the name of “public safety”. Sad indeed what is happening.

Meditation

Gentle One, I pray for all that are suffering and the millions more that will suffer under the greed of those who claim to lead us. I beg for mercy, and ask Your forgiveness for all the pain those who claim to lead us are causing.
