Living in Unconditional Love (237)
“Love flows from God to humans without effort:
As a bird glides through the air without moving its wings-
Thus, they go wherever they wish united in body and soul,
Yet separate in form.”
–Mechtild of Magdeburg
My wife Eileen died from esophageal cancer in February 2020 one year after being diagnosed, 60 years after we met on Long Island. Then my brother Tom became ill (not COVID), and I spent a total of six weeks being with him in Ohio, but he died in October 2020. My sister-in-law Sue Mahoney died from Covid-19 in January 2021. On top of it all stood the pandemic, locking everyone down almost two years. Covid has proved to be a persistent problem, and many of the long-term effects are quite serious, and it has proven much more serious than flu.
10/05/2025 We lost one of my heroes this week, Jane Goodall, who died while on a speaker tour in Ca. She was six days older than me, but what a pioneer in understanding nature. Her study of chimpanzee behavior over a fifty year or more period led to a deeper understanding of animal behavior that changed the way we should be understanding the wild. She would sit for hours inn their midst until they accepted her has part of their clan – and even that concept that they were a “clan” blew science away. Her books and lectures (many are on UTube) amaze all who listen or read her words. We will miss her deep understanding and calls to accept that we humans are an extension of God’s call to consciousness.
The drought continues with no rain this past week and only a possibility of a small amount next week. It is unseasonably warm and will cool down only a bit by next weekend. The gladiolus and some everblooming and very late daylilies are still in bloom, as well as the fall bulbs in purple and white. The weather is predicted to be warm for the fall, which is difficult to accept. Even so, I will have my winter tires mounted this coming week preparing for the snow which I assume will happen later this year or next.
The leaf colors are changing rapidly now. I suspect the drought had something to do with that. So far mostly yellows are appearing.
This has been a very quiet week for me and while I have a dental appointment for a tooth filling this week as well as a car service and having the winter tires mounted, it will be quiet next week. My son Tim came out and put the tires in the car on Saturday, as the tires have become so large and heavy I find it difficult to carry them the short distance and put them in the car. I will take the old ones out and leave them in the garage until I have someone take them out to the shed while here.
The world continues its sad pace to destruction, but the Pope did pointedly voice his displeasure at the way T’s way is hurting and killing innocent people. Sad to say, about a third of those carrying out T’s whishes are Catholic, but that does not seem to stop them from the power-hungry moves. Power, indeed, destroys almost all who have it. We have to remember that it has been over 2000 years sonce the time of Jesus, and the coming of the kingdom has progressed greatly sonce then we still have a long way to go,
Meditation
Gentle One, I lay my joys and sorrows before You. I pray that You will shower those being hurt with Love and keep all wrapped in Your soft touch. The pain is so great and so much injustice being performed that it is indeed a large step backwards. Help us I pray to offer Your love to all who cross our path.
