Living in Unconditional Love (230)
“Love flows from God to humans without effort:
As a bird glides through the air without moving its wings-
Thus, they go wherever they wish united in body and soul,
Yet separate in form.”
–Mechtild of Magdeburg
My wife Eileen died from esophageal cancer in February 2020 one year after being diagnosed, 60 years after we met on Long Island. Then my brother Tom became ill (not COVID), and I spent a total of six weeks being with him in Ohio, but he died in October 2020. My sister-in-law Sue Mahoney died from Covid-19 in January 2021. On top of it all stood the pandemic, locking everyone down almost two years. Covid has proved to be a persistent problem, and many of the long-term effects are quite serious, and it has proven much more serious than flu.
08/10/2025 This has been a warm week in midst of summer, and I do love it. It has not rained this past week, and there is only a slight chance of rain next week, so things may dry out. I continue to water the bonsai every day, and they are looking good even though I should spend time pruning them a bit as they are starting to look a bit neglected, but it has been too warm to be out. I spend most days sheltering in the AC and feeling good. I am pleased that the AC works so well both in the summer and winter when it supplies most of the heat.
The garden is looking beautiful with the Orientpet Lilies (the “tree lilies”: advertised in catalogs) still mostly blooming but reaching their end for the season. That leaves the Oriental lilies left to bloom. The gardens were weeded and weed-wacked this week and all look nice. I don’t get out like I should, to remove spent blossoms, but the daylilies are still blooming well, especially the later ones as the early daylilies have finished their blooming cycle.
I find it hard to believe that it is August already and much discussion on school has started. Some areas will have school starting soon, but New York has school starting right after Labor Day.
Both garage doors have been replaced and they look nice. Makes the approach when driving in look better and I am pleased with the result.
I have joined a novena to stop the executions in the state of Florida, as they have killed 9 so far this year and have two more scheduled this month. It is sad that that the governor of Florida claims to be Catholic, ignoring the statements of the church that death penalty killings are immoral and never to be condoned. I am saddened by two of the ones who are the evilest in the country claim to be Catholic, ignoring all the social justice teachings of the Church, the vice president and the governor of Florida, but instead teaching hatred and not love.
Meditation
Gentle One, I lay my concerns and trouble in Your care. I beg of You to sooth those so troubled in out world, especially those causing so much pain in our nation currently and are so obviously have internal troubles. I ask for Your soothing aid and help to all who are calling on Your aid right now. I place my trust in Your Love, knowing that Your love surpasses all and You join in the weeping that fills our world so needlessly.
