Living in Unconditional Love (245)
“Love flows from God to humans without effort:
As a bird glides through the air without moving its wings-
Thus, they go wherever they wish united in body and soul,
Yet separate in form.”
–Mechtild of Magdeburg
My wife Eileen died from esophageal cancer in February 2020 one year after being diagnosed, 60 years after we met on Long Island. Then my brother Tom became ill (not COVID), and I spent a total of six weeks being with him in Ohio, but he died in October 2020. My sister-in-law Sue Mahoney died from Covid-19 in January 2021. On top of it all stood the pandemic, locking everyone down almost two years. Covid has proved to be a persistent problem, and many of the long-term effects are quite serious, and it has proven much more serious than flu.
11/30/2025 This has been a week of recovery and am feeling good as I write this. I have not left home, so I have nothing of interest to report. The doctor confirmed that I have a cold and gave me several meds that helped hold the symptoms off. Things seem to be returning slowly to normal. It will probably take most of the week to fully recover from that cold, based on past experience.
Dan has gone to the industry conference in Orlando and is returning Friday. Everything else is as usual and the kids are running around having fun (or crying) as usual. They never are still unless the rare moments when they can watch cartoons.
The temperatures are about 70 during the day, breezy, and mostly sunny. The views are always beautiful, and the ocean is wonderful to watch. It is almost always hazy, and the haze moves in and out during the day.
There was a big international soccer tournament this past week, and many visitors jammed the area. The finals were two Brazilian teams, and it was reported up to 70,000 people came from Brazil for the game yesterday. The streets and parks were full of people as they took every hotel and place available. It was unusual to see the park across the street jammed with people.
Meditation
Gentle One, I place my troubles and joys in Your hands for safe keeping in these times. I thank you for helping me feel better and to be able to join in the family fun. I ask for blessings on our world that is so filled with pain. I ask blessings on my family and friends at this time as we start the Advent path.
