Living in Unconditional Love (239)

“Love flows from God to humans without effort:

As a bird glides through the air without moving its wings-

Thus, they go wherever they wish united in body and soul,

Yet separate in form.”

–Mechtild of Magdeburg

My wife Eileen died from esophageal cancer in February 2020 one year after being diagnosed, 60 years after we met on Long Island. Then my brother Tom became ill (not COVID), and I spent a total of six weeks being with him in Ohio, but he died in October 2020. My sister-in-law Sue Mahoney died from Covid-19 in January 2021. On top of it all stood the pandemic, locking everyone down almost two years. Covid has proved to be a persistent problem, and many of the long-term effects are quite serious, and it has proven much more serious than flu.

10/19/2025                                      We had some rain, and rain is predicted for several days this coming week. I hope we have the rain, as the drought continues to hamper us. The little rain we had did nothing to ease the drought. It will take several days of rain to set things back to normal.

The trees are all changing rapidly now. the maples seem to be lagging but their red leaves are starting to show around here. The winter hardy blooms are doing well, and the garden still looks surprisingly good. I did my last mowing this past week and the next mow will be in the spring. I need to go to the cemetery and clean the gravesite before winter sets in.

I see deer once in a while in the lower pasture and I saw a flock of turkeys last Sunday as I was returning from eating out in the evening. The evenings are getting darker as are the mornings as Daylight-savings time is ending. I will bring up the fall decorations this week and put them around. Halloween is only two weeks away.

Our bonsai club met this past Friday, and it is always nice to chat with them. The last of my trees were trimmed. They are still outside but will be brought in soon. They are all looking nice, and it is a pleasure looking at them.

This Saturday saw a large series of demonstrations throughout the country against the present regime that is seemingly bent on destruction of democracy here. The demonstration called “No Kings” draw perhaps millions across the country. The pope recently spoke out against the treatment of so many, as many leading efforts to deport and crush minority groups are Roman Catholics, sad to say. Some in that group are grumbling about starting their own church in retaliation. The sad state of those who reject the social aspects of Church teachings is painful to watch. It is even sadder to watch the news of starvation, and the thousands of deaths caused by lack of food. As has been said, there is no reason that starvation exists in out society, other than selfishness and greed.

Meditation

Gentle One, I ask Your forgiveness for out selfishness and greed that is killing so many. Help humanity to see what it is doing and follow Your teachings of kindness and charity.
