Living in Unconditional Love (225)
“Love flows from God to humans without effort:
As a bird glides through the air without moving its wings-
Thus, they go wherever they wish united in body and soul,
Yet separate in form.”
–Mechtild of Magdeburg
My wife Eileen died from esophageal cancer in February 2020 one year after being diagnosed, 60 years after we met on Long Island. Then my brother Tom became ill (not COVID), and I spent a total of six weeks being with him in Ohio, but he died in October 2020. My sister-in-law Sue Mahoney died from Covid-19 in January 2021. On top of it all stood the pandemic, locking everyone down almost two years. Covid has proved to be a persistent problem, and many of the long-term effects are quite serious, and it has proven much more serious than flu.
07/06/2025 The visitors, Karen, Maureen, and Karen’s daughter Meaghan, and Barbara all arrived safely on the 4th. It is great having them here, and Drew and his two children, Huntley and Clara came over today (Saturday) and we all had a great time playing. That is, they played, and I watched. I am looking forward to this next week. Barb can’t stay the whole week but will return before they leave on the 11th. It was much fun, and Drew and the kids explored the woods and the pond and had a great time. They did find a few ticks but were not bitten.
We had a horrendous storm on the 3rd, and the airport still did not have power on the 4th but relied on backup power. Barb and I were in the grocery store in Binghamton and listened to the hail on the roof and heavy rain. About an inch of hail fell at the airport and downtown areas. Tim and Julie’s garden (and most others) were destroyed in the storm, and they still have not been allowed back in to see their main garden at the allocated space in the county park close by their home, but from what they could see from the road it is flattened. I was lucky; the worst, including the hail, did not reach us, even though it rained hard. They will do what they can when they can get in to see it. Apparently, a tornado was part of the storm and caused much damage.
Saturday night (the 5th) we lost power late. The generator kicked on and the lights flickered but did not stay on, as the switchover to generator power failed. The generator stayed on until power was restored after an hour or so, but it failed to transition. Naturally this occurred when I had company. I will call the generator folks on Monday.
Our nation is in a sad state, as we take from the poor and give to the rich and the R dance and sing to that. Evil is as evil does. I am a bit discouraged by the hate and evil intent on the masked and unmarked black suits who carry that out. I understand millions will die from lack of food and other aid that has been stopped over the next 10 years.
Evil indeed. But God will prevail in the end.
Meditation
Gentle One, I lay my weeping heart in Your care, as I find it difficult to understand the hatred and evil that lies in the heart of a large percentage of our people. They rejoice in the pain of others and inflict pain every more if they can. But this life is short. I leave the results to You to enable them to see what they have done.
